PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a seat-leaving monitoring device for a wheelchair using an electrostatic capacitance type mat sensor as a seat-leaving sensor that can reduce power consumption of a battery power source as much as possible.SOLUTION: A seat-leaving monitoring device for a wheelchair includes: an electrostatic capacitance type mat sensor 30 arranged on a seating surface of a wheelchair a battery power source 44 for supplying power to the mat sensor 30 switch means SW1 connected between the mat sensor 30 and the battery power source 44 and a care-giver absence detection means for detecting an absence time when a care-giver who attends on a care-receiver leaves the wheelchair by a prescribed distance or more.
