The present invention is related to a method for purifying diatomaceous earth wherein the natural colloidal structure of the material is retained, which comprises preparing a suspension of diatomaceous earth in a liquid wherein diatomaceous earth is insoluble, separating diatomaceous earth from the suspension, treating diatomaceous earth with an inorganic or organic acid, heat-treating the thus obtained product at a temperature not higher than 300°C, subjecting the product obtained to oxidative treatment and drying the purified product. The invention also relates to a product obtainable by the above-mentioned method.La présente invention concerne un procédé pour purifier de la terre de diatomées dans lequel la structure colloïdale naturelle du matériau est conservée, qui comprend la préparation dune suspension de terre de diatomées dans un liquide dans lequel la terre de diatomées est insoluble, la séparation de la terre de diatomées de la suspension, le traitement de la terre de diatomées avec un acide inorganique ou organique, le traitement thermique du produit ainsi obtenu à une température de pas plus de 300 °C, la soumission du produit obtenu à un traitement oxydatif et le séchage du produit purifié. Linvention concerne en outre un produit pouvant être obtenu par le procédé mentionné ci-dessus.
