The invention provides a method for treating fecal incontinence in a subject comprising administering in an appropriate subject a therapeutically effective amount of a biocompatible bulking agent to the wall of the anal canal. The biocompatible bulking agent comprises dextranomer and a pseudoplastic carrier, such as, hyaluronic acid, and is stable and effective in treating fecal incontinence for over 24 months, and up to at least 36 months or more following an initial administration.L'invention concerne un procédé qui permet de traiter l'incontinence fécale chez un sujet et qui comporte la pose, chez un sujet approprié, d'une quantité thérapeutiquement efficace d'un agent gonflant, biocompatible, sur la paroi du canal anal.
