The present invention relates to a variable diameter protector assembly for minimally invasive surgery that comprises: a plurality of ribs having the shape of a flat plate with a specified width and a specified length and retractable joint members, each of which interconnects one of the plurality of ribs and a rib adjacent thereto, wherein the plurality of ribs form a cylindrical shape having a channel formed therein by virtue of the repetition of a pattern in which the edge of one rib and the edge of the adjacent rib overlap each other, the plurality of ribs, which form the cylindrical shape, are inserted through an opening of a person that undergoes a surgical procedure, and the inner diameter of the cylindrical shape varies according to the extension and retraction of the joint member.
