Ear-mountable devices support optics, biosensors and mobile communication functions to provide a safe and comfortable load bearing. In particular, there is provided a rod bearing ear unit comprising an anchor for stably attaching to the ear and a member extending from the anchor. The member has therein a rotation stabilizer configured to provide stability in the relevant plane for safe ear mounting. Also provided is an ear-mounted optical device comprising one of the rod bearing ear unit and a camera, a light source, a virtual reality device, an IrDA device, and a photodiode. An ear-wearing wearable device including the rod bearing ear unit and at least one biosensor is additionally provided.
