PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a maytansinoid-cell-binding agent conjugate useful as a therapeutic agent, which are delivered specifically to target cells and are cytotoxic, and a method for the synthesis of the same.SOLUTION: There are provided new thiol and disulfide-containing maytansinoids bearing a mono or di-alkyl substitution on an α-carbon atom bearing a sulfur atom are disclosed, and methods for the synthesis of these new maytansinoids.
