A balloon catheter for angioplasty and coronary angioplasty and a method for manufacturing the balloon catheter is disclosed. The balloon catheter includes a shaft having a proximal portion and a distal portion a balloon carried at the distal portion of the shaft and wires having a profile that surrounds the balloon. The balloon and the wires are polymer-free sequentially coated with at least one oxidation-insensitive drug and at least one lipophilic antioxidant such that the oxidation-insensitive drug and the antioxidant are not homogeneously mixed.
