A catheter adapted for insertion into a body of asubject has at least one electrode disposed on its distalsection. the electrode is coupled to an energy source toablate tissue that is placed in contact with theelectrode. The electrode has a wall with a plurality ofperforations formed therethrough, and has edges defining aperipheral section that is adjacent the edges and a centralsection remote from the edges, wherein the wall of theperipheral section is thicker than the wall of the centralsection. A lumen passing through the insertion tube iscoupled to deliver a fluid to the tissue via theperforations. In operation, the electrode functions as aneffective heat sink.
