Certain embodiments provide a computer system for displaying original and derived images and image series, each derived image series comprising a sequence of image frames. The computer system comprises an application component operable to create a specification for generation of a derived image series based on user interface interaction with displayed original or derived images, each derived image series specification providing values for a plurality of visualization parameters including a parameter whose value varies from frame to frame within the derived image series and a plurality of parameters whose values are fixed from frame to frame of the derived image series； and generate a derived image series by manipulating the medical image data set according to the derived image series specification. The display is configured to receive from the application component and display the derived image series generated from the derived image series specification.
