A compound represented by formula (I) for preventing and treating human or animal parasitic infection, wherein the R group is either a -CH3 or -C2H5 group the R group is -CH3 in tenvermectin A and is -C2H5 in tenvermectin B. Both of the tenvermectins can kill and eliminate a parasite, such as a nematode or an arthropod.
