Methods and systems for decorticating fibrous plant stalks are disclosed. Onesuch systemincludes a pair of rotatable drums. Each drum is coupled to a frame andpositioned to form a gapbetween the drums for receiving a stalk for peeling. A pinch anvil is coupledto each drum forpinching the plant stalk adjacent an end of the plant stalk. Pinching theplant stalk severs an innercore of the plant stalk while leaving an outer bast intact and splays portionsof the plant stalk atthe end. A grab bar is coupled to each drum for holding one or more of thesplayed portions of theplant stalk. Rotation of the drums causes the grab bar to pull along the oneor more portions of theplant stalk at the end, peeling the stalk.
