PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a retaining appliance capable of surely retaining a small animal and arbitrarily changing the direction of the small animal after retaining it.SOLUTION: The retaining appliance for a small animal includes: a cylindrical body 2 into which a small animal with a long tail is inserted a back plate 24 provided on the rear end of the cylindrical body a head holder inserted into the cylindrical body freely movably in the axial direction of the cylindrical body and a base having a flat surface substantially in parallel with the axial direction of the cylindrical body. The head holder is provided with a basket into which the head of the small animal is inserted and a fixing screw threadedly engaged with the basket.
