The present invention relates to the novel use of an extract from a Cimicifuga species, preferably Cimicifuga racemosa (also termed Actaea racemosa L； black cohosh). In particular, the invention is directed to an extract from Cimicifuga sp., preferably Cimicifuga racemosa, for use in the therapeutic or prophylactic treatment of diabetes, preferably diabetes mellitus type 2, the use of such extracts for preparing a medicament, corresponding pharmaceutical compositions comprising the extract as well as a method for the therapeutic or prophylactic treatment of diabetes, preferably by oral administration of the extract or pharmaceutical composition.본 발명은 시미시푸가 종, 바람직하게는 시미시푸가 라세모사(Cimicifuga racemosa, 액태아 라세모사 L(Actaea racemosa L)； 블랙 코호시(black cohosh)라고도 명명함)의 추출물의 신규한 용도에 관한 것이다. 특히, 본 발명은 시미시푸가 종, 바람직하게는 시미시푸가 라세모사의 추출물이 당뇨병, 바람직하게는 제2형 진성 당뇨병의 치료적 또는 예방적 처리에 사용되는 용도, 이 추출물을 포함하는 약학적 조성물들에 해당하는 약제를 제조하는 이와 같은 추출물들의 용도와, 바람직하게는 추출물 또는 약학적 조성물을 경구 투여하여 당뇨병을 치료적 또는 예방적으로 처리하는 방법을 제공한다.
