The application provides a method for the covalent immobilization ofbiomoleculeson polymer micro- or nano-particles. A modified micro/nanoparticle system isprovided,which uses a functionalized polymer formed into micro or nanoparticles to bindamolecule to the particles, e.g. using Diels-Alder cycloaddition or Huisgen 1,3-dipolarcycloaddition . The biomolecules and/or other therapeutic agents may beencapsulatedwithin the polymer particles for intravenous therapeutic delivery. Theapplication alsoprovides a novel synthetic biodegradable polymer, a furan/alkyne-functionalizedpoly(trimethylene carbonate) (PTMC)-based polymer, whose composition can bedesigned to meet defined physical and chemical property requirements.
