An agricultural baler (10) includes a main bale chamber (26), a plunger (30), a gear box (42) and a stuffer unit (24). The plunger (30) is reciprocally movable within the main bale chamber (26). The stuffer unit (24) is driven by the plunger (30) and/or a gearbox (42), and is movable through a stuffer cycle for transferring crop material in charges into the main bale chamber (26). The agricultural baler (10) is characterized by a hydraulic brake (50) associated with and configured for acting as a brake on the stuffer unit (24) during a portion of the stuffer cycle.
