Methods and devices for manipulating the core body temperature of a human areprovided. In thesubject methods, heat is transferred with a surface of skin of a human that issealed within aperimeter and exposed to negative pressure conditions. The subject devicesinclude at least thefollowing components: a means for forming a sealed perimeter around a bodysurface, a meansfor creating negative pressure within said perimeter, and a means for exposingsaid surface to atemperature transfer medium. The subject methods and devices find use in avariety ofapplications where a portable means for decreasing human core body temperatureis desired.
