A small pet habitat system includes a plurality of modular habitat units. Each of the habitat units includes a rigid housing defining a chamber, at least one integral coupling feature, and a functional component. The habitat units are configured to be modularly stacked to form a multi-unit pet habitat structure in which the coupling features of adjacent ones of the habitat units interlock to limit relative movement between said adjacent habitat units.
