A method of treating varicose veins includes inserting an assembly into a vein, wherein the assembly includes an outer sheath, a self-expanding member inside the outer sheath, and a cutting member mounted on the self-expanding member. The method involves relatively moving the outer sheath and the self-expanding member while the assembly is in the vein to expose the distal end of the self-expanding member distally beyond the distal end of the outer sheath so that the self-expanding member outwardly toward the inner wall of the vein, with the cutting member being moved into direct contact with the inner wall of the vein. The method further includes rotating the self-expanding member together with the cutting member while the cutting member is in direct contact with the inner wall of the vein so that the cutting member damages the inner wall of the vein and forms blood clots.
