PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To achieve the multi-planar reconstruction (MPR) display in a short switching period of time by creating a cross-sectional image by means of high-speed processing even if the quantity of data of the cross-sectional image increases.

SOLUTION: The MPR device comprises a first storage part 25 for storing 3D data of a plurality of successive and parallel cross-sectional images, a cross-sectional image processing control part 23 for creating an arbitrary cross-sectional image from the stored 3D data, and a display means 30 for displaying the created cross-sectional image. The cross-sectional image processing control part 23 comprises a compressing part 42 for creating compressed 3D data by reducing the quantity of the 3D data stored in the first storage part 25 and storing the compressed data in a second storage part 24, an axial cross-sectional image creating part 43 for creating and displaying an arbitrary cross-sectional image parallel to the 3D data from the compressed 3D data, a first cross-sectional position setting part 44 for setting an arbitrary first cross-sectional position on the axial cross-sectional image, and a first cross-sectional image creating part 45 for creating and displaying a first cross-sectional image at the first cross-sectional position from the compressed 3D data.
