An object of the present invention is to provide a novel methylmenthol derivative which can be used as a cooling agent or a sensory stimulant which is free of undesirable irritation, peculiar smell, bitter taste and the like and is excellent in the persistence of cooling and cooling feeling. The cooling agent composition of this invention contains the methyl menthol derivative represented by General formula (1). [In Formula (1), * mark is an asymmetric carbon atom, X represents a hydrogen atom or a substituent, and Y is a C6-C20 aryl group which may have a substituent.]본 발명은, 바람직하지 못한 자극감, 특이한 냄새, 쓴맛 등이 없고, 청량감이나 냉량감의 지속성이 우수한 냉감제 또는 감각 자극제로서 이용할 수 있는 신규 메틸멘톨 유도체를 제공하는 것을 과제로 한다. 본 발명의 냉감제 조성물은 일반식 (1)로 표시되는 메틸멘톨 유도체를 함유한다.
