The invention relates to a non therapeutic cosmetic method for lightening and/or homogenizing especially the colour of the skin and/or lips comprising the application to the skin or lips in particular the skin of the face and/or the shadows around the eyes of at least one layer of a cosmetic composition comprising (i) at least non interference scattering white particles characterized by a volume average size (D50) of between 0.3 and 40 µ?? and a refractive index (Rl) of between 1.7 and 2.2 in a content greater than or equal to preferably strictly greater than 1 % by weight with respect to the total weight of the composition preferably from 2% to 12% by weight with respect to the total weight of the said composition and (ii)from 0% to 2% by weight of particles with a refractive index of greater than or equal to preferably strictly greater than 2.3.
