A blood pressure monitor includes a means for recording when a calibration procedure is carried out, a timing means, a shock sensor, and a means for generating an alert to indicate that calibration is required after a sufficiently large mechanical shock or series of shocks has occurred or a predetermined time period has elapsed. The monitor is configured to transmit an indication of calibration status together with the blood pressure reading to a remote location.
