Spine X-ray film is the easily and reliable method to detect and evaluate the severity of scoliosis. The frequently used method to evaluate and describe the severity of scoliosis in spine X-ray films is so-called “Cobb’s angle”. However, its measurement reliability still remains controversial. Besides, the curvature of spine scoliosis is difficult to be depicted by one angle value.This new method to measure scoliosis is based on the radius of a circle. According to geometry, there exists only a circle that contains three given points in the same plane. The radius of this circle can be used to depict the curvature of specific spines. Moreover, the location of the center can be used to describe the direction of scoliosis in specific vertebras. By this new method, clinicians or physiatrists can measure every individual vertebra, instead of only one angle value for the whole spine and to avoid the measurement errors by Cobble’s angle measurement. The application of the radius ratio is also helpful to overcome the measurement errors due to different size of X-ray. The radio is the radius dividing by the width of interested vertebra. It provides more accurate and useful information for clinicians and patients to monitor the disease progress and treatment effect.脊柱側彎的X光檢查仍是目前的診斷與評估嚴重性的工具。目前評估側彎的嚴重性,最常用的方法為Cobb’s angle,而且也影響治療的方式。然而Cobb’s angle不論在同一個施測者不同時間多次測量或者不同施測者對於相同的X光片測量的結果,其可信度(reliability)仍存爭議。此外,角度的意義比較難與病患或者家屬解釋。本次發明採用三角形外心的概念,使用脊柱中點的連線來畫出某特定節次的脊柱側彎程度。本方法可以將脊柱的側彎情形,一節一節的表示出來,而且不需要如Cobb’s angle目測去訂出「彎曲改變」的脊柱來計算,可以有效減少測量誤差以及大幅改善解釋上的不方便。同時因為是一節一節測量,以及從圓心相對於脊柱的位置,可以更精準的描述脊柱側彎的研究性與方向。藉由此半徑與脊柱的寬度比,可以用在不同X光片之間的比較。這種新的測量方式,可以提供背架或者運動治療療效更精確的評估。a‧‧‧圓的半徑b‧‧‧脊柱最大寬度
