The present invention relates to a composition comprising a mixed herb extract and sulfasalazine as effective components for preventing or treating colitis, and more specifically, to a pharmaceutical composition comprising a mixed extract of Scutellaria baicalensis and Bupleurum falcatum and sulfasalazine or pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as effective components for preventing or treating colitis. The pharmaceutical composition of the present invention is not only capable of effectively preventing, delaying, ameliorating, or treating colitis, especially inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), or the like, but also has extremely low risk of side effects due to the long-term administration of a high dose of sulfasalazine, and thus can be very useful for the development of a preventive or therapeutic agent for colitis.본 발명은 복합생약추출물 및 설파살라진(Sulfasalazine)을 유효성분으로 포함하는 대장염 예방 또는 치료용 조성물에 관한 것으로, 보다 상세하게는 황금 및 시호의 혼합 추출물 및 설파살라진(Sulfasalazine) 또는 이의 약학적으로 허용가능한 염을 유효성분으로 포함하는 대장염 예방 또는 치료용 약학적 조성물에 관한 것이다. 본 발명에 따른 약학적 조성물은 대장염, 특히 염증성 대장 질환(Inflammatory bowel disease IBD) 또는 과민성 대장염 증후군(irritabel bowel syndrome, IBS) 등을 효과적으로 예방, 지연, 개선 또는 치료할 수 있을 뿐만 아니라, 고용량의 설파살라진(sulfasalazine) 장기 투여에 따른 부작용의 발생 염려가 현저히 낮아 대장염 예방 또는 치료제 개발에 매우 유용하게 활용될 수 있다.
