A system 402 for performing functional electrical therapy FET comprising: one or more electrodes 406 supplying an electrical impulse to stimulate one or more muscles or nerves associated with a given patient body part 454； one or more motion sensors 408 to monitor movement of at least one further body part 450 thats independent of the stimulated body part 454； and a computation unit receiving and analysing data from the motion sensor 408. Electrode 406 may supply an electrical stimulation impulse to one or more muscles or nerves within a limb. Motion sensor 408 may comprise an accelerometer or a gyroscope. Electrode 406 may be contained in a housing that may be a wearable garment. The computation unit may control electrode 406, where the system may further comprise a stimulator to control electrode 406 under computation unit instruction and where the computation unit may communicate with electrode 406 via the stimulator and the motion sensor 408 through a wired or wireless connection. The computation unit may comprise a user interface which may convey information relating to obtained motion sensor data. The user interface may display user instructions relating to a predetermined FET therapy routine.
