FIELD: medicine.SUBSTANCE: eye-mounted device is designed to measure analyte concentrations in tear fluid and contains: a transparent polymer material; and an encapsulated electronic structure embedded in the transparent polymeric material. The encapsulated electronic structure comprises the first layer of biocompatible material, the second layer of biocompatible material, an electrochemical sensor that includes a working electrode and a reference electrode, and an electronic module encapsulated within a biocompatible material such that the tear fluid penetrating through a transparent polymer material, is isolated from the electronics module by the biocompatible material. The second layer of biocompatible material has an opening that opens the working electrode and the reference electrode. The electronic module includes: an antenna; and a controller electrically connected to the electrochemical sensor and the antenna. The controller is configured to control the electrochemical sensor to obtain a sensor measurement associated with the analyte concentration in the tear fluid to which the eye-mounted device is exposed, and to use the antenna to indicate the sensor measurement. The method for manufacture of encapsulated electronic structure comprises the following steps: forming the first layer of biocompatible material; provision of the electronics module on the first layer of biocompatible material; forming a working electrode and a reference electrode of the electrochemical sensor on the first layer of biocompatible material; forming the second layer of biocompatible material to coat the electronic module, working electrode and reference electrode; co-annealing of portions of the first and second layers of biocompatible material to form an encapsulated structure; and forming a hole in the second layer of biocompatible material to open the working electrode and the reference electrode.EFFECT: application of this group of inventions will expand the range of technical m
