A safety needle and hub module for selective connection with a medical devicethat includes abase and a head. The module includes a needle shield for selectively coveringa distal end of aneedle. A needle hub is movably received within a proximal opening of theneedle shield, andextends through a passageway of the needle shield. An actuation button ismovably received inopposing lateral apertures of the needle shield to engage the needle shield,the needle hub and themedical device. In a first position an upper leg of the actuation button isreceived in a recess ofthe needle hub, and a lower leg of the actuation button is received in anundercut between thebase and head of the medical device. In a second position, after the actuationbutton is actuated,the module is removable from the medical device.
