PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali earth metal hydroxide powder having properties capable of being suitably used for various synthesis reactions and a manufacturing method therefor.SOLUTION: The alkali earth metal hydroxide powder is represented by A(OH)xHO, where A is one alkali earth metal selected from barium and strontium and x is 0≤x≤1. BET specific surface area is 0.2 to 1.5 m/g and compression degree represented by {(tap density-bulk density)/tap density}×100 of 1.5 to 35% when A is barium.
