Apparatus for securing a first object to a secondobject is disclosed, in particular for securing tissueto a bone. The apparatus has an elongated body having adistal end, a proximal end, and a lumen extendingbetween the distal end and the proximal end. The lumenhas a first section and a second section, the firstsection of the lumen being disposed distal to thesecond section of the lumen, and with the first sectionof the lumen having a wider diameter than the secondsection of the lumen. The apparatus also has alongitudinally-extending slit extending through theside wall of the elongated body and communicating withthe lumen, the slit having a distal end and a proximalend, with the distal end of the slit being spaced fromthe distal end of the elongated body. The apparatusalso has an elongated element extending through thelumen of the elongated body, and having a proximal endand a distal end and having an enlargement at itsdistal end, the enlargement haying a diameter greaterthan the second section of the lumen.
