The use of an erythropoietic molecule for the production of a medicament for the treatment of neurodegenerative disorders of the brain and spinal cord by administering an effective amount of the medication in the bloodstream of a patient in need of such therapy, in which the Erythropoietic molecule comprises a portion of erythropoietin with at least one free amino group selected from the group consisting of human erythropoietin and analogs thereof that possess the modified human erythropoietin sequence by adding 1 to 6 glycosylation sites or a reorganization of at least one glycosylation site； and wherein said portion of erythropoietin is covalently bound to "n" polyethylene glycol groups of the formula ** Formula ** -CO- (CH2) x- (OCH2CH2) m-OR with the -CO of each polyethylene glycol group forming a bond amide with one of said amino groups； wherein R is a linear or branched alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms； x is 2 or 3； m is between about 450 and about 900； n is 1 to 3； and n and m are chosen in such a way that the molecular weight of the resulting erythropoietic molecule by subtracting the molecular weight of the erythropoietic portion is from about 20 kilodaltons to about 100 kilodaltons.El uso de una molécula eritropoyética para la producción de un medicamento para el tratamiento de trastornos neurodegenerativos del cerebro y de la médula espinal mediante la administración de una cantidad efectiva del medicamento en el torrente sanguíneo de un paciente que necesita dicha terapia, en el que la molécula eritropoyética comprende una porción de eritropoyetina con al menos un grupo amino libre seleccionado de entre el grupo que consiste en la eritropoyetina humana y los análogos de la misma que poseen la secuencia de la eritropoyetina humana modificada por la adición de 1 a 6 sitios de glicosilación o una reorganización de al menos un sitio de glicosilación； y en la que dicha porción de eritropoyetina está covalentemente unida a "n" grupos polietilenglicol de
