A system and method for determining and predicting a patient's susceptibilityto neurological dysfunction based on measured electrophysiological parametersemploys a self-contained implantable device (110) with depth electrodes (612,614, 616, 618) implanted in desired locations in the patient's brain. Thepatient's neurological tissue is stimulated to determine excitability andrefractoriness (or inhibition period) parameters, which are employed toidentify susceptibility to abnormal neurological activity, particularlyepileptic seizures.
