PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a light irradiation system capable of effectively utilizing an external light source and illuminating an operative field.SOLUTION: A system 1 can illuminate an operative field or a target site even if an instrument has no battery by transmitting a light to the operative field or the target site via the instrument while effectively utilizing a powerful light source such as operative field illumination, i.e. using a light guide or an optical battery. There is provided an optical irradiation system 1 is provided which has an external light source 11 and an instrument 22 having a light guide 21. The light guide 21 has a light guide body 24 for allowing a light received by a light source side end portion 23 to propagate therethrough.
