The present invention relates to a composition and a health functional food for inhibition of apoptosis of cranial nerve cells comprising a phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE 5) inhibitor. According to the present invention, the PDE 5 inhibitor shows a protective activity for nerve cells by inhibiting apoptosis of cranial nerve cells.
