A method and system for annotating images is disclosed. The user can annotate the image using the touch screen of the medical imaging system. The annotation may be free form drawing by the user. Annotations may be displayed with images on touch screens and other displays of medical imaging systems. Annotations may be associated with metadata that may provide location information, diagnostic information, and / or other information. Metadata, annotations and images can be stored in the memory of the medical imaging system.
