582981 Provided is a method for identifying or selecting a bovine subject with one or more desired lactoferrin (Lt) production, regulation, or secretion phenotypes, the method comprising determining a Lf allelic profile of the subject by determining the presence or absence o anyone or more ofthe following: a) C allele at the 30126 TIC polymorphism in the Lf gene or b) T allele at the 30126 TIC polymorphism in the Lfgene or c) G allele at the 7447 AlG polymorphism in the Lf gene or d) A allele at the 7447 AlG polymorphism in the Lf gene or e) C allele at the -7 G/C polymorphism in the Lf gene or t) G allele at the -7 G/C polymorphism in the Lf gene, or g) presence or absence of a polymorphism in linkage disequilibrium with anyone or more of a) to t) above, and identifying or selecting the subject on the basis of the determination. Further provided are herds selected by the method and milk and milk products from such selected herds.
