Device for extracorporeal phototherapy of a patients body fluid containing bilirubin comprises a first (10) and a second (12) lead arrangement for connecting to the patient (P), a liquid-tight body fluid phototherapy device (14) connected between the first and the second lead arrangement, and at least one controllable body fluid transporting device (16) arranged in the first and/or second lead arrangement and producing a controllable body fluid flow rate. The first lead arrangement continuously feeds the body fluid taken from the patient to the body fluid phototherapy device. The second lead arrangement continuously feeds the exposed body fluid to the patient. The body fluid phototherapy device has a radiation source for emitting electromagnetic radiation of wavelengths greater than 430 nm, preferably between 450 and 530 nm.
