The invention relates to a device (1) for inhaling powdery substances (46) in particular of a medical nature contained in capsules (31) which can be brought into an emptying position by means of a receptacle (A) that can be moved in a flat housing (2) in which position the capsule wall can be pierced by means of movable needles (34) for the purpose of sucking out the capsule content through a mouthpiece channel (5) which extends in axial extension of the capsule chamber (28). According to the invention in order to further improve a device of the type in question in particular with regard to user friendly operation and use of the device the receptacle (A) is designed as a part of the narrow lateral wall (17) of the flat housing (2) that can be pivoted out to a limited extent about an axis (y) and a partial region of the narrow lateral wall plane (E) is designed as a spring loaded push button (36) for the needle bearings (35) in such a way that the partial region moves back to the plane (E) of the narrow lateral wall (17) at a maximum.
