The problem addressed by the present invention is effectively controlling the amount of iP-type and tZ-type activated cytokinin produced in the above-ground parts of plants and providing a means for giving the plants a useful trait. According to the present invention, a method for increasing the biomass of plants is provided by overexpression within the plant body of an activated cytokinin synthesizing enzyme gene and a cytokinin hydroxylase gene.
