Disclosed is a solid dressing for treating wounded tissue in a mammal comprising at least one haemostatic layer consisting essentially of a fibrinogen component and a fibrinogen activator (e.g., thrombin), wherein said haemostatic layer is formed by combining said fibrinogen component and fibrinogen activator in an aqueous solution at approximately 4 degrees celcius, reducing the temperature of said aqueous solution to form a frozen aqueous solution, and reducing the moisture content of said frozen aqueous solution to produce said haemostatic layer. Further disclosed is the use of said dressing for reducing the loss of blood and/or other fluid from wounded tissue in a mammal.
