An object of the present invention is to allow an operable state and an inoperable state of a brake shoe to be readily set. A spool brake apparatus (25) for a dual bearing reel (10) according to the present invention brakes a spool, which is rotatably mounted on a reel main body (11), using a centrifugal force. The spool brake apparatus (25) comprises a rotating member (62), a brake shoe (64), a brake drum (66), and a selective fixing member (67). The rotating member (62) rotates in association with rotation of the spool (14). The brake shoe (64) is movably supported by the rotating member (62) between a braking position at which the spool (14) is braked using a centrifugal force, and a non-braking position at which rotation of the spool is allowed not to be braked. The brake drum (66) can contact the brake shoe (64). The selective fixing member (67) is mounted on the rotating member (62).
