An image processing apparatus comprises: shape obtaining means for obtaining information indicating a surface shape of a target object discrimination means for discriminating a contact portion and a noncontact portion between the target object and an imaging surface of an ultrasonic probe which captures an ultrasonic image of the target object position and orientation obtaining means for obtaining information indicating a position and orientation of the ultrasonic probe at the time of imaging and alignment means for estimating deformation of the target object based on information indicating the surface shape, a discrimination result obtained by the discrimination means, and information indicating the position and orientation, and aligning the surface shape with the ultrasonic image.Linvention concerne un appareil de traitement dimage qui comprend : un moyen dobtention dune forme pour obtenir une information indiquant une forme superficielle dun objet cible un moyen de discrimination pour différencier une portion en contact dune portion qui nest pas en contact entre lobjet cible et une surface dimagerie dune sonde ultrasonore qui capture une image ultrasonore de lobjet cible un moyen dobtention de la position et de lorientation pour obtenir une information indiquant une position et une orientation de la sonde ultrasonore au moment de limagerie et un moyen dalignement pour estimer la déformation de lobjet cible daprès linformation indiquant la forme superficielle, un résultat de discrimination obtenu par le moyen de discrimination et linformation indiquant la position et lorientation et lalignement de la forme superficielle avec limage ultrasonore.
