ABSTRACT This invention relates to sustained release matrix comprising of Diospyros melanoxylon seed coat mucilage and at least one pharmaceutical active drug . The Diospyros melanoxylon seed coat mucilage had proved to be an efficient Sustain Release matrix forming polymer. The present invention further relates to process of preparation of said composition by direct compression technique with Diospyros melanoxylon seed coat mucilage as the natural matrix former and with the combination of Xanthan gum and HPMC (K4M) in various ratios.
