The invention relates to a catheter (20) which can be part of a intravascular blood pump, comprising a kink sensor which extends over the entire length of the catheter and comprises an optical fibre (28A). Said optical fibre is connected to an evaluation device (100) which evaluates a predetermined quantity of light guided through the optical fibre for detecting whether part of the quantity of light is decoupled from the optical fiber along the length of said optical fibre. This is interpreted as a kink event and displayed. The optical fibre used for the kink sensor is preferably the optical fibre of an optical pressure sensor.
