A system for examination of an eye of a subject includes a laser for irradiating a select portion of the retina with a short pulse light having a wavelength of about 800 nm to about 1400 nm at an intensity effective to stimulate two photon induced isomerization of visual pigments in the select portion of the retina of the subjects eye, and an input device to permit the subject to input a reaction or response of the subject to the irradiating light.Linvention concerne un système pour lexamen dun œil dun sujet, comprenant un laser pour exposer une partie sélectionnée de la rétine à une lumière dimpulsion courte ayant une longueur donde denviron 800 nm à environ 1 400 nm à une intensité efficace pour stimuler lisomérisation induite par deux photons de pigments visuels dans la partie sélectionnée de la rétine de lœil du sujet, et un dispositif dentrée pour permettre au sujet dentrer une réaction ou réponse du sujet à la lumière rayonnée.
