Devices for securing a first tissue to a second tissue and methods of making and using such devices are provided. The device consists of an elongated needle, a handle located at the proximal end of the elongated needle, and a superelastic anchor located within the elongated needle, which is contracted to fit within the elongated needle. A superelastic anchor including at least one normally extended elongated hook biased, a fixation element, and a handle that is triggerable, the elongated hook being distal from a longitudinal axis of the elongated needle. An anchor is ejected from the distal end of the elongate needle so that it can be expanded laterally outward into or across the tissue, and in at least one direction after injection of the anchor. An advancement mechanism configured to eject the fixation element from the device to prevent movement of the anchor.
