The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus to calculate meal time. The present invention comprises: a step in which a wrist acceleration calculating unit calculates a wrist acceleration variation value which is a change value of acceleration about a users wrist motion measured based on gravitational acceleration； a step in which a wrist angle calculating unit calculates a wrist angle variation value which is a change value of an angle to the users wrist based on a gravitational direction using the wrist acceleration variation value； a step in which a meal behavior candidate pattern detecting unit detects a meal behavior candidate pattern in accordance with a predetermined criteria by applying at least one threshold value to the wrist angle variation value； and a step in which a meal time calculating unit calculates the meal time based on the occurrence of a number of meal behavior candidate patterns.손목 가속도 산출부가, 중력 가속도를 기준으로 하여 측정된 사용자의 손목 움직임에 대한 가속도의 변동값인 손목 가속도 변동값을 산출하는 단계, 손목 각도 산출부가, 손목 가속도 변동값을 이용하여, 중력 방향을 기준으로 사용자의 손목까지의 각도의 변동값인 손목 각도 변동값을 산출하는 단계, 식사 행위 후보 패턴 검출부가, 손목 각도 변동값에 하나 이상의 임계값을 적용하여 소정의 기준에 따라 식사 행위 후보 패턴을 검출하는 단계 및 식사 시간 산출부가, 식사 행위 후보 패턴의 발생 횟수에 기초하여 식사 시간을 산출하는 단계를 포함하는, 식사 시간 산출 방법 및 장치에 관한 것이다.
