PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and inexpensive optical system capable of imaging at a wide observation viewing angle on an imaging device with simple constitution, and an endoscope using the same.
SOLUTION: The optical system 1 rotationally symmetric with respect to a center axis 2 is equipped with an aperture S arranged on an object side on the center axis 2, and a transparent medium Lb1 arranged on an image surface 5 side of the aperture S and having a refractive index larger than 1, and has a first optical path A for forming an image of an object on the periphery of the center axis 2 at the peripheral part of the image surface 5, and a second optical path B for forming the image of an object on the center axis 2 at the center part of the image surface 5. The transparent medium Lb1 has internal reflection surfaces 22 and 23 turning concave surfaces to the image surface 5 side on the first optical path A.
