The invention discloses a process for producing a hollow fibre membrane module from a strip-shaped mat having individual hollow fibres arranged next to one another, in which the matt is wound off from a first, cylindrical winding core and wound up on a second, cylindrical winding core in such a way that a wound hollow fibre bundle is formed, wherein the second winding core is made of at least one part. The process comprises the following steps: ° transport of the mat from the first winding core in the direction of the second winding core at a variable velocity vm, wherein the mat rests on a support element which is moved at a variable transport velocity Vf and the velocity vm is synchronized with the transport velocity vf; and ° wetting of the mat with an embedding composition in regions during transport of the matt on the support element, where at least one identically shaped and/or differently shaped wetting contour is formed on the wetted mat. The invention also discloses an apparatus for carrying out the process and a hollow fibre membrane module which has been produced by the process.
