Disclosed is an ostomy appliance (10) comprising a pouch (18) including a filter (22). Present ostomy pouches with filters suffer from leakage, clogging and insufficient deodorisation. The ostomy appliance (10) comprises two opposing panels (12, 14). The panels (12, 14) are at least partly sealed to one another along their peripheries. The panels (12, 14) form a pouch (18) which captures body waste. One of the opposing panels (14) includes a stomal opening (20) for positioning around a stoma, so that body waste excreted through the stoma is captured in the pouch (18). The pouch (18) comprises a filter (22) for deodorisation of odorous gas from the body waste and an opening for emitting the deodorised gas to the atmosphere. A pleated centre panel (28) is located between the two opposing panels (12, 14) and at least partly covers the filter (22) for protection. The centre panel (28) further deters ballooning of the pouch (18) from gas build up in the pouch (18).
