The disclosure notes that the animal feeder (1) allows continuous grazing and alleviates biomechanical stresses to animals that wall mounted feeders cause an animal to incur. The animal feeder (1) comprises a hopper (2), a trough (3) and a feed controlling dispenser (43). The hopper (2) stores feed. The trough (3) is disposed beneath the hopper (2) and can communicate with the hopper (2) to receive feed. The trough (3) comprises a recessed feed outlet (42) from which an animal can extract feed from the trough (3). The trough (3) is disposed at ground level to present feed to an animal in an anatomically replicated natural grazing position. The feed controlling dispenser (43) is disposed at the feed outlet (42). The feed controlling dispenser (43) comprises a series of fingers (45) disposed across the recessed feed outlet (42) for regulating access to the feed in the trough (3). Each finger (45) comprises a releasable mechanism for individually releasing the fingers (45) from the series of fingers (45). The releasable mechanism comprises a releasable wedge on each finger (45) that can be released under weight pressure.
